Teide National Park is the one land excursion almost every visitor should do: a 47,000-acre volcanic crater crowned by Spain's highest peak at 3,715 metres. Guided tours run from all southern resorts (Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas) and Puerto de la Cruz, typically 5 hours for a half-day or 8 for a full day with stops at Roques de García, the lava flows and viewpoints above the sea of clouds. The cable car to 3,555 m is a paid extra (around €22–41) and weather-dependent. We match you with a licensed local tour operator — you pay them directly.

Who it's for (and who it isn't)

Everyone, honestly — it is the island's signature landscape and requires no fitness beyond a short walk on lava paths. The cable car is not recommended for very young children, pregnant travellers or anyone with heart conditions because of the altitude. If you want the summit crater itself, that needs a free permit booked months ahead — the cable car does not include it.

Honest tips before you book

  • Bring a jacket: at 2,000+ m it can be 15°C cooler than the beach, even in summer.
  • The cable car closes in high wind — if it matters to you, book a tour that refunds or reschedules.
  • Morning tours often catch the 'sea of clouds' below the crater rim.
  • Combine with a stargazing evening on a different night rather than the same long day.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Teide National Park tour cost?

Half-day guided tours run €40–55 per person and full-day tours €60–90. The cable car is an optional €22–41 extra, and private tours run €250–450 per group.

Is the cable car included?

Usually not — it is an optional extra payable on the day, and it closes in high wind. If reaching 3,555 m matters, tell us and we will match you with a tour that pre-books slots.

Where do tours pick up?

All main southern resorts (Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas, Golf del Sur) and, on selected days, Puerto de la Cruz. We confirm the closest pickup point before you book.

What should I wear?

Trainers or walking shoes, a jacket and sun protection — the altitude sun is strong and the temperature drops fast above the clouds.

Can I reach the very summit?

The cable car reaches 3,555 m; the final 163 m to the crater requires a free permit from the National Park, usually booked out weeks or months ahead.
